Thirty-five years ago, I discovered that little was known in the Netherlands about old Christmas ornaments. This intrigued me so much that I decided to do my own research. The result of my years of study can be found in my Dutch-language booklet “Kerstversiering uit de oudedoos 1875–1975” (Christmas Decorations from the Old Box), Part 1.

In this book, I take you on a nostalgic journey. I tell how Christmas ornaments were often passed down from mother to daughter, which is why we can still find beautiful old pieces today. With great pleasure, I show how the ornaments were made, what materials were used, and which styles were popular during different periods.
The book is richly illustrated, and I’ve noticed that the abundance of images has inspired many beginning collectors. I’m especially proud of the pages where I’ve arranged the ornaments by era. Many readers tell me they use these pages to compare and date their own collections!
Inside, you’ll find hundreds of photographs of Christmas ornaments, postcards, garlands, wax candles, and nativity scenes. I haven’t forgotten the little metal caps and clips either often overlooked, but so important for true enthusiasts.
I see this first volume as an essential guide for new collectors and traders alike. It’s my way of sharing my passion for this beautiful Christmas tradition with you, and I hope it will fascinate you just as deeply as it has captivated me for so many years.
